At the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi spotlighted the pivotal role of Renewable Energy North East India in driving India’s clean growth future. He affirmed that the region—rich in hydropower, solar potential, and green hydrogen—will become a major contributor to Sashakt Bharat.

With ₹38,856 crore worth of green energy investment agreements and strategic geographical advantages, the North East is fast emerging as the country’s green energy powerhouse and clean export gateway.

India’s Green Vision: Renewable Energy North East India

The Union Minister stated that the Renewable Energy North East India mission is not just infrastructure-focused but transformative. With over 129 GW hydropower potential and 18 GW pumped storage opportunity, the region is vital to India’s One Nation, One Grid policy and sustainable energy security.

He described the eight Northeastern states as the Ashtalakshmi of Green Energy, each contributing to India’s prosperity and energy transition.

₹38,856 Cr in Green Energy MoUs Signed

India’s clean energy ambitions in the North East are backed by solid investor interest. Shri Joshi announced:

  • 115 MoUs worth ₹38,856 crore signed in the Renewable Energy North East India space
  • Projects to cover solar parks, hydro power, green hydrogen, and associated logistics
  • Major private players committed to creating jobs and industrial hubs

Special Budgetary Support for Renewable Energy North East India

To ensure focused development, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has rolled out special incentives:

  • 10% of MNRE’s annual budget reserved exclusively for the North East
  • 10% additional Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
  • 20% extra CFA for Components B & C of the PM-KUSUM scheme

These financial measures aim to attract developers and accelerate installations in Renewable Energy North East India zones.
